what helped change it was the insurance costs imposed on the doctors when doing it.

a doctor i do work for works out the fee for doing it by dividing the insurance premium costs added by doing it, by the number he did the year before and adding $110 for the actual job...

When we picked up my dog he had a crocked tail that the breeder said you could straighten by strapping it to a length of wood or paddle-pop stick just like you would for a fractured bone.

We didn't bother because we thought the dog would probably do something stupid and try to pull it off. So he now runs around with his tail curving upward and forward... looks pretty silly but he's happy.

Thumbs up Any Vets on here

In every state of Australia except W.A. it is illegal to dock tails for cosmetic reasons.
However it would be legal for medical reasons and in this case it would be justified

I'm pretty sure its illegal in WA as well now.

Dobbo if there is a medical reason the vets can dock a tail, and just so you know they are done medically not with a rubber band..and i believe it all has to be recorded so they can prove if called upon that it was for just cause

as for docking sheep that is for there best interest, to help provent them getting fly blown.

no chance, I'm not that silly, but i do know of several sets of parents that insisted on having their sons "done" recently so theirs would look the same as "daddys", and I agree with that course of action.

Not really....I've seen the job done and changed nappies on newly circumcised baby boys...they scream....its enough to break any mothers heart
I was watching Long Way Down last night and they were staying overnight with a tribe in Kenya. The tribe had moved to this place for a special ceremony.......the circumcision of what I would assume were teenage boys . Now whether the chief was joking or not, but the boys were not allowed to flinch, wince, show an inch of acknowledgement of what was being done to them or they would be killed or flogged . They also described how they did it.......that made me wince and flinch all in one go. So whilst an adult may not remember it....how many adults would line up for it to be done.........as an adult? If you wouldnt have it done to you as an adult, how can someone let it be done to their baby boy..........cause they want their willy to look like their old mans...I mean WTF,

    Regards

    Stevo

I am off to the Vet tonight to get my puppy's 12 week injections done, so I'll try and remember to ask about the tail issue.

He's a Dobermann and I am still getting used to seeing him with a long tail. The old one was docked when we bought her, but 12 years ago that was normal.
