Non LR Q - does anyone know what these are?

These aerials were recently fitted to a street light pole outside his house. There is a cable that runs into the pole from the aerials but he's trying to work out what they are for.
Calls to the local council (Blacktown, NSW) or local electricity supplier have been fruitless.

How peculiar. They aren't a long range thing like a mobile phone tower, somebody extending a wireless network or wanting good uhf reception?

Maybe a communications link for a red light or street camera

Or maybe they really are out to get you

Looks like a wireless relay for something...

Possibly CCTV, or traffic lights (for ambulance or fire approaching - they get the green light). Maybe local council repeater...

They look like UHF antennas. Because there are two antennas it is possibly a repeater station for two way radio ( if it is on top of a hill that's even more likely ). There should be some sort of box at the base of the pole with the radio gear in it.

Otherwise it could be some form of SCADA link ( data ) carrying information on a switchbox/valve or some other control gear back to a central computer.

will not be an issue if he's worried about RF emissions etc. He could try contacting ACMA for any transmitting station should be registered on their database.

I'd be guessing that it is a UHF repeater also.

He finally got onto someone who was interested at the Council & sent the pictures through to them.

After they did some checking, it turns out they're part of an electricity meterage trial. I can't access any info on that from work but it doesn't appear to be related to the recent discussion on usage charges - supposedly just cuts out the manual reading of the meter.

hmmm.......so that's what they're calling it now, "a meterage trial"... sounds as good a smokescreen as a "factfinding mission"
