It is not unusual for a business to retain the original owner's name even when the owner changes.
When I asked the owner of an electrical goods store in Yass why it was still named after the person who had established it many years and several owners ago, the owner explained about the enormous costs involved in changing the name of the business.
There were some obvious costs like signage, advertising and stationary as well as a number of less obvious ones. It sounded like a pretty convincing argument to retain the name.

Was it GC's hands or one of GC's mechanics?
I have been going to Graeme's workshop from 1987 when it was a one man show in Gladstone Street, Newtown and never had any problems when Graeme's hands were on the tools. Yes there have been problems when it wasn't his hands on the tools but I must say if you bring the problem to his attention he is very willing to rectify it. They have also got me out of trouble when I arrived un-booked even whilst they had a full workshop of other cars.
If that sort of customer care continues, I'll be happy to continue to use them.

I've always gone to GC and not had any problems as i've been lucky to deal mostly with Graeme, last time i was there he took me for a drive in my Disco to try and locate a noise that had me stumped...apart from thrashing 7 bells of hell out of the car ( hit the rev limiter!! ), he found the noise bang on, a sway bar mount bush, had a great time hooning around though!
Although Ward could do with a sense of humor upgrade, he's a damn good mechanic and i'll keep going back there.

I reckon Graeme is a top bloke, and I don't know how anyone can think anything else of him.
However, since we are talking service quality here, in my dealings with three different LR mechs (one a dealer, two independent) I have yet to find one that doesn't charge like a bull and make me feel as if they are only guessing about what is wrong with the car. Not naming names here, but if it wasn't for a lack of time and the questionable issue of resale value, I'd do all the work myself, and know the best quality parts were used and the work was done with care. I'm not saying that these blokes don't know what they are doing at all, it's just for $100 an hour (and lots of hours usually) I expect much better. I always feel to a greater or lesser degree ripped off after taking my Land Rover to a Land Rover service centre.
Just bought a Renault for my wife, first time I've owned one for years and a Renault specialist mechanic doesn't charge anything like these LR guys per hour labour and frankly, does a better job! Maybe I'll take the Disco to him!![]()
