I don't know how any one can generalise in anyway shape or form and say homeless people are scum. It is not like any one wants to be in the position they are in. People may hold some perverted thought that people want to but it is just not the case.

If people would take the time to look it would be obvious that the vast majority are mentaly ill and have not been able to deal with life as well as others who have "adjusted" better.

Not everyone can be what society sees as the norm and some people for no fault of their own just can't do life.

Frankly, some of the most inspiring people I have met are people who are drug dependant and people who are or have been homeless. Not in a way that makes me want to be in their position but for the ingenuity and the sheer resillience they have to sleep on the streets and put up with the crap they do from people in society because they are closed minded and up-themselves.

Totally agree with Xavie's last post.

They probably weren't given any help, or maybe they didn't know that they could get help.

Although every now and then you might come across a homeless guy who might be a jerk, it doesn't mean they all are, it doesn't even mean that that particular jerk is in fact a jerk, what would living in the streets and parks do to you? how would you see other people who haven't gone through what you might have?

Me and a mate got talking to a homeless guy once and we saw him a lot around the area and we talked to him whenever we saw him because he was a nice guy, he told us he used to be a mechanic and then lost his job and couldn't get another one because the people he worked for trained him a certain way to suit their business and he couldn't get another job as a mechanic, then he couldn't pay rent for his house, ended up living in his ute, then had to sell that to afford food. He didn't do drugs or even drink.

This can happen to anyone, and it can just spiral out of control until you have nothing at all,

I once was a field officer of Dept. of Social Security. I saw a lot of homeless people. Many, if not, in those days, a majority, were "homeless" because money otherwise spent on accomodation could be spent on the other necessities of life, booze, tobacco, drugs, gambling. Amazingly, most of these "homeless" people were receiving rent assistance from the Dept. indicating that they had lodged a claim for it and produced documentary proof.

From what I've seen in life, alot of the "Scum" on this earth are more likely to be rather well paid.

Sell there own mothers kidneys in her sleep, I'm so important, look at me types. Ignore the kids, bash the missus, rip off everyone, expect everything, give nothing. It's more about values and regard for fellow man, than anything.

People addicted to stuff, I tend to think of that as just "Sad Excuse for a life", unless they try to rip me or my family off to pay for their habit. Then it's personal
