I was there on Saturday, and the track was annoyingly bumpy but I can't see how anyone could get stuck.

mate we were there in sept and the bus thing is the goods...my mate was in front of us traveling along nicely in some pretty soft stuff as you can see in front of him was a bloody bus we were going through a tight little Vally as you can see and the bus decided to stop and look at something my mate in his little KIA (didn't have a prob all day apart from this BTW) and he just sank to the bottom after some digging around the diffs and some help from the good old "Hubbatrax" we got him out but also if you look in the rear of the pic there is a little jimmy that had muddies on it from Aussie trax 4wd hire ....there were actually two of them following us all day (must have decided that we new where we were going ) with out a prob in the world we were there all day across the island up to Eli creek and back......

Thats why i hate the bloody buses too. They just stop in the most annoying places, and if you meet them in the opposite direction they just stop there an wait for you to work out where to go, even if it is easier for them to back up just a little to make room. If you can't find a Deefer to hire i would go the zuki, they a great little sand 4x4s

I have hired a Rav 4 to take on the beach before and it was a fun machine to drive. I even got the opportunity (as embarrasing as it was) to drive around a stuck range rover traversing into increasingly boggy sand and then back to hard stuff in the process. the best part about that was seeing the blokes wife sitting on the carpet mat while he attempted to dig the thing out with a shovel that was about 12 inches long. As soon as he got moving after we dug him out with our real shovels he hi tailed it out of there. Oh yeah his misses was left sitting on the carpet next to the hole he created.

It probably wont matter too much what vehicle they have. the most improtant thing will be tyre pressure. Reduce pressures to around 15 - 20 psi (depending on vehicle & tyre size) and your friends will get where they want to

been a while since we were there probably fixed now.... there was a 2ft drop off one of the boards and some vehicles had trouble climbing it

Thought i would throw this in,vehicle of choice,i recon around 1970

This is an old family photo i found ,down on the south end of the island,in one of those soft areas left by the sand miners.

Not much help around, lucky to see one tourist a week

No boarded tracks either, just a shovel,a winch,& lots of elbow grease

In fact ,as long as the tide was going out,you just went for a fish, and came back in an hour or two and just drove out
