OK Guys, Having such a great response from you all I now have a huge list of books and not quite sure where to start ?? so if you can all take the time to copy and paste and then go through and just put a number rating between 1-10,
I'll do the ones I've Read below as a demostration ! (if there is allready a number previously just put a space between) Also add books if you like with rating !!

Cheers and Thanks in Advance !

Since reading Kristin Weidenbachs book " Mailman of The Birdsville Track", about Tom Kruse, I've been trying to get hold of a book mentioned titled "Thirty Years With men", by Harry Ding, who had once been Toms boss.
Finally I've tracked it down and it's still available from
    The Rotary club of Walcha,
    P.O. Box 1,
    Walcha.
    NSW 2354
Include payment of twenty dollars and a return address.
I've just finished it. It gives a very good account of the conditions and challenges of outback transport and travel in the 30's and 40', and some good photos of the trucks used.

No More Beyond: The Life of Hubert Wilkins.

A book about the greatest explorer you've never heard of, who just happens to be an Aussie. Guess who Kingsford Smith bought the "Southern Cross" from? Guess who took some of the most famous WW1 photos? Guess who was the first under the polar ice cap in a submarine?

Its a blinder of a read - a real shame that he goes mostly unsung.

I think the book you are after is, Paradise Found - A Cape York Adventure
By Linda Rowe. It is not sold at the James Cook museum any more. The author sells it in her shop, The Croc Shop, in Cooktown. It is also available here Crocodile books - Australiana crocodiles history book - books on crocodiles by Australian author
