I don't mean to be rude, but have you put much thought into this post?

I think it is fair to assume that the Police have all had similar training.

From what I have read, that training includes shooting twice (so called double tap) rather than once only. This is to ensure the threat is neutralised.

Given that the training would include threat recognition, isn't it also fair to assume that all three Officers that did shoot came to the same conclusion at roughly the same time? IE : This person is out of control and is about to harm the fourth Officer. Therefore they would have done the "double tap" at near enough to the same time.

The tone of your post seems to imply that they took turns shooting one at a time and a little thought indicates the fallacy of that.

Well the rules say (in relation to the use of lethal force) that, "there is an immediate threat of serious injury or death and there is no other way of stopping that threat". That is literally belted into you....

Tasers - they have an effective range (firing the probes) of 2.5 to 3 metres. You need both probes to latch onto the peanut for the device to work. Now if he's waiving his arms about and generally not staying still, the chance of only one probe (at best) making contact is pretty slim. Also, how quick do you reckon you could cover three metres and stab someone???? The safe distance to be from someone with a knife is about 7 metres. That'll give you just enough time to freak out and move (slightly) before you risk an injury. So no, tasers are no the answer most people think they are.

Shoot to wound - what if you miss?? An errant round might kill someone else....? The torso presents the largest target and yes, vital organs. So if that's going to stop the threat, well there you go. And as for warning shots??????? That's a big no no - where does that round end up?

Finally, I'm the one who wants to go home at the end of the day. I couldn't give a rats about losers like this. He was looking for a fight and he found it. His family can carry on all they like, but where were they when he started going off the rails??? Who's job is it to raise him, them or everyone elses???

At the end of the day it comes down to him or me...or you or your loved ones. Which would you prefer?

You can shoot a roo twice with a 5.56 and he'll keep going for a while - most of the VICPOL still have to put up with .38's, so they would have kept firing until he hit the deck....and then covered him whilst someone checked and disarmed him.

just to be controversial...

he was in the process of attacking cops with meat cleavers.

If the whole of the police force decided that they wanted to line up single file and pump a mag each into him I'm good with that.

I am on the side of the coppers here as well. They are not out to kill, mates of mine feel lucky that in 20 odd years have never had to draw their weapons. These guns are only effective to 25m and are not all that accurate, if I have a knife and am standing 3 metres from someone with a hand gun you would be surprised to know who has the advantage, that distance can be covered in 1 second, thats not a lot of time for well aimed shots.

I have read the earlier posts.Like i said dont get me wrong.I dont think they were wrong to shoot him.I just think 6 times was a bit excessive.They had enough time to shoot warning shots.So why they couldnt just surround him is beyond me.I think they panicked more then anything.And it will all come out exactly what happened sooner or later.This thread has certainly been controversial and i think a few people on here need to calm down a bit.Theres no need for people to have a go at someone else because they have a different opinion.But i will still be watching this with interest.No doubt it will be in the media for some time to come.

bet the news will have dropped it by next week but it will get a mention in some papers at around page 5 or 7 till new years.

Just bear in mind some on here have real world experience of firearms and know that some of the things others have suggested are simply not practical.

Others probably have operational experience as well, and know just how little time you really have in these situations when everything is turning to **** and you need to make life or death decisions in a split second, so take exception to the armchair experts sitting back and saying what should have been done from the comfort of their PC!

Take your suggestion to surround him for instance - if he then advances on one officer, who then has a safe shot with the others potentially in the line of fire?

Two shots per officer isn't overkill either - there are plenty of stories of people taking far more rounds and still advancing, and I've seen animals hit with far bigger rounds than from a service pistol run 50m easily when the shot was a fatal one.....and that's without the potential benefit of alcohol or drugs!
