Thats terrible. It's not difficult to not have the trailer on properly.

    Pretty awful!

No safety chain or was it a case of bad reporting?

I often wondered about safety chains, do they actually do something, after all, the shock load would be tremendous

    Safety chains.

I saw a trailer jump off the towball once and if it hadn't had chains on I hate to think what would have happened in quite heavy traffic on the Causeway in Perth.
Very bad luck for the dead woman and her family.

Captive chains do work. My wife and I were driving to Darwin a few years ago with my car trailer and her VS commodore on it, when the tow ring shattered in a gazillion bits and let the trailer go. The chains were crossed over and caught the A frame from hitting the tar.

amazing stuff, can you attach chains to the rails on caravans?
my last head chef position in the u.k. had a caravan park within the business and we used to watch caravans pull past the reception on the way out the gate the amount that jumped off the ball and hit the deck!
now we always went and helped out after picking ourselves up off the floor, but we always mentioned how it would be a disaster if it happened on a major highway with a truck up ya **** as they tend to drive over there

    Another shocking road accident

I hope the trailer was insured,as once it detatches from the towing vehicle it is not covered by the vehicles insurance........
