They will swap, they're both 24 spline on the pinion. The difference will be that the early axle halfshafts are 10 spline, and the 95 is 24 spline. BTW, don't forget to pull the spacer ring out that goes under the pinion flange too.
hi all,i was just wondering if anyone out there knows if the diff flanges of early and late series 1 discos will interchange....

As you're bidding on 'Son of Bundalene's' front & rear axle/diff assys (I assume), you can use the front diff centre in yours as it will be identical to what you have now.
Then you can get your car back on the road quickly & do the flange changeover at your leisure.

There's this one if you can get it down from Brissy:

$55.
There's also the diff hemispheres for sale if that's what's gone on yours (if the CW & P are OK).

The latter D1's like yours have a 4 bolt pinion flange with a uni drive shaft coupling. The Pre 97 D1's have a 3 bolt pinion flange with a rubber donut drive shaft coupling. The uni arguably more vibration but better for lifting. You will need to transplant your 4 bolt pinion flange to earlier 95 diff or use a drive shaft with 3 bolt donut coupling to use that 95 complete diff. The diff centres are identical across all the D1 models if that is all you need to change. I have some drive train bits in markets if it helps.
thanks guys just scored a complete centre for$130.
