I google the words I misspell followed by 'definition', doesn't matter if it's spelled correctly or incorrectly, the correct spelling comes up in the first post.

For Firefox dictionaries -
Tools menu>top left corner of window Get Add-ons>upper right side Browse All Add-ons>on the left hand side of the web page Dictionaries and Language Packs>scroll down to English(Australian)>Click>Install>Restart Firefox.

Not as easy as I thought.

I knew when I started the thread it would become quite emotive but I had no idea of how personal some people would take it. Sure there are people who speak English as a second language and others may have learning disabilities or are dyslexic but the majority of folk here were raise in Australia with a minimum year 10 education.

My starting this thread came about after seeing some pretty shocking examples of spelling where posts were actually unintelligible. The incorrect use of their/they're/there isn't really a big deal at the end of the day but when you can't make head nor tail of a post because it's got such bad spelling and grammar, especially when you're trying tell help someone, then it really does get to me.

Upon reflection I realise what really gripes me is not so much spelling but appalling grammar. How many times are there posts where someone writes an entire essay as a single sentence? After translating 2 or 3 sentences it's usually done my head in and I skip that post!

I do find vnx205's post rather ironic where he commented on how singling out someone's spelling is off limits but it's ok to make jokes at others expense about weight or other personal attributes.

Strange, it's picked up both on mine. I've used the UK and Aus dictionaries and it still picks on words like realise. I'd rather get a false negative than a false positive though.

I can't believe this post kicked off again. It all went quiet then :censored: and we are off again. I am just going to assume that we somehow enjoy this stuff?

Now if someone had organsied a trip for today, I wouldn't be drawn to watching this train wreck....

I feel its about time, for those of us who have knowledge to add to questions posed by, the learned folk, to belittle them, just a bit;), for not knowing the correct answer, or having furthered themselves, enough to know the answer already:wasntme:

Get real people, if its unlcear, ask someone to repeat themselves, as you would in "real life" if someone had incoherently mumbled (like I've been known to do:D), don't rabbit on about it:p

Correct Максим Горький was a writer, he mainly or is known for his writings about revolution and the awkwardness, clumsiness of change. Published in English in the early 1920s to much acclaim his name became common use for awkwardness or being ungainly when applied to a person, inline with his writings. Ironically when the Moscow City Government introduced with approval of the Soviet Government a Zero tolerance for anyone with a criminal record to live within the MDK line. Gorky Park became the refuge of many of these people. This added a sinister element to the word if used by native English speaking communities in the northern Europe areas. further iconicity. Since the fall of the CCCP Gorky Park has become the stamping ground of Drug addicts, Male prostitutes as well as Russia most successful serial killer. Gorky is in my Oxford 1947 but not in my oxford 1987.

pre BBC English "preachment" was used indifferently. Today this word is usually pronounced as peachment, possibly you could locate this word in your Oxford?

There seems to be a bit of a trend over about 3 of my posts where you have responded. You have responded in a very personal manor as if my posts were directed to or at you personally. Normally I would apologise for this misunderstanding but reading back though some of your posts I get the feeling that you may like to place your self in this position, as this is your choice so I will leave it at that.
