Even Aussies who just visited the UK (say for a fortnights holiday) after a certain year can't give blood here either. This mad cow thing is probably more serious than we all get to know about.

If I can give my 2 cents worth here

    Blood
Anyone who has lived in Europe for 6 months (not sure this was about 3 years ago) cannot give blood.

This is due to problems with disease in Europe generally. Not sure about the technicalities of it but is not just Mad Cow disease. Even in Europe a lot of blood products have to be imported (most from USA) as they cannot use locally obtained blood due to these problems and cost / ability to cleanse the blood of the problems. Very untechnical however this came from a friend who is senior in the Australian Red Cross blood bank.

    Passports
Dual passports is only a recient event in Australia. While some had them before if found the Australian citizenship was immediately cancelled.

One of the main drivers of the change was that some countires would not let you renounce thier citizenship. So if these people became Australain citizens they would then have problems as were still dual. Came to a head when a Greek ancestory persoN was elected to parliment however could not take place as could not hold Australain citizenship.

There are plenty of examples of people who are third or fourth generation Australian with the usual ethnic mixed up multi breeding lineage background with only the surname to connect them who have ended up doing military service as the name fits.

Had one customer who did a runner to Israel as had dual passports. Forget military service requirement and was taken away at the airport. As you would expect the Australian governrnent would not assist as was a citizen of Israel. We were writing to the fox hole on the Golan heights. Think it would have been easier to stay and face us.

If your an aussie why bother with pommy passport. Be an aussie and be proud- or if you feel pommy and barrack for them in the Ashes then get pommy passport.
Cmon one or the other man. My parents are wogs but stuffed if i am going to travel on wog passport. I am ,you are, we are australian.
