Apparently fan death a big deal in South Korea. Doctors even note it on death certificates.

'Fan death' in Australia is more likely to be caused by this..

New meter roll-out may leave sweltering consumers smarting | theage.com.au

$174 a day to run the aircon.

I would believe it. A couple of times I had problems lighting a fire in a Brick fireplace that was frozen up at say -30. The little pile of kindling wouldn’t cut it, the smoke went up and came down again. I thought the chimney was blocked first but no it was just the cold. I could see this happening with a small fire and a low pressure inertia and over a few hours. The real problem would be the small flame.

In our area we have days of intense smoke pollution from Summer bushfires and the Area Health Service advises the Elderly, the young, pregnant women and persons with Asthma and COPD to stay indoors and close all windows and doors and if you have an air conditioner use it to help filter the air, so this another example of Bureaucratic bull****, Regards Frank.

We have had people die here from the use of unflued gas fires in sealed rooms.

Mind you, my memory can be pretty hopeless at times

I believe even ER or one of the popular police shows covered similar incidents
It definitely happens, legislators won't change laws till some poor bastard dies, I sent Isuzurover some info to look at, I still have some other stuff I need to find, Regards Frank.

I know far too many people who regret getting rid of their wood burners and getting heat pumps etc.

What caused the deaths was Carbon Monoxide poisoning from Wood Heaters and gas and oil furnaces, most wood heaters are loaded up with wood and the air intake closed down so as the fire would still be burning in the morning. Many oil furnaces are turned down to their lowest setting as well, overnight. What was happening was the fumes going up the chimney or flue were cooling down and rising very slowly, with the Dryers and frost free fridges fans and rotating roof vents causing a slight pressure drop the cold outside air travelled down the chimney or flue and forced the fumes back into the house, through the fire's air inlet, helped by the aforementiond fans. Some states in the USA have legislated that Carbon Monoxide Monitors and Air pressure monitors be installed in homes with wood heaters and oil and gas furnaces, Believe it or Not, Regards Frank.
That'll never be a problem in this house with our great little combustion heater.
Old timber slab houses aren't terribly well sealed, actually 'collander with roof' would be a better description
