I work in IT and done my share of recruiting. IT is probably one of the least racially discriminating industries. In our team of 55 we have 17 nationalities represented. The only time I have seen foreigners disadvantaged is when their english is not up to chop and that is fair enough.
The last guy is an idiot for saying that out loud but he probably only did so because he didn't see it as important. If people were rejecting you because of nationality then they would do so at short-listing and you wouldn't get an interview at all.
And Aussie IT guys and gals have a good reputation overseas which is why they are popular in the UK so I wouldn't be assuming you were the best person for the job.
