    Here we go again (maybe)!

Half an hour ago I got a phone call to go up the top of the hill and get a bearing on the smoke. Latest information is that it is about 20km west of here, out of the forest. One of the aircraft fighting the major fire near Lake Burrendong spotted it and has dumped two loads of water on it. At my last information, no surface units had got to it. Judging from the lightning strike map, it will have been started by lightning.

We are on the edge of the severe thunderstorm warning area, Dubbo at 5pm 38.0C 19% wind WSW 15 -24 kph.

Can Lake Burrendong spare much water for firefighting?

I found this river height reading for Burrendong but without knowing the usual level, it doesn't tell me much.

    Station Date/Time Water Level (metres)
    31/01/2009 02:30 1.15
    04/02/2009 15:15 1.03

No signs of fire this morning - but then they usually die down overnight. Nothing at all about it on the radio or TV.

To tell you the truth, I don't know what is on - but the only "local" at all on TV is local news from Prime and Win in the evening, and both of these are from Orange. I do not normally have the TV on in the mornings - I have the radio on - it is local (ABC from Dubbo). But nothing there either, although I did email them last night and got a reply saying they would see if they could find anything. The Burrendong area fire is mentioned on the RFS site, but the latest report is yesterday afternoon when it was described as "going".

What on earth is that supposed to mean?

    Going, going, gone?
Going great guns, and we'll be able to justify some more centralised funds for us to spend on our Homebush headquarters?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
