It realy depends, many daily driven Land Rovers look largely derelict.![]()
If one saw a largely derelict Land Rover that would make a good project, do you think it is inappropriate to leave a letter on it asking if the owner was thinking of parting with it in the future?
How do I go about wording it?
Thanks in anticipation.

My first thought is that the most important thing is to ensure there is nothing in the letter to encourage the mistaken impression that old vehicles that have not yet had thousands of hours of painstaking restoration are actually worth much money.
Maybe you could even drop some gentle hint about how it is unfortunate that some old vehicles that are beginning to become a nuisance to maintain are often scrapped because they are not worth much.
You could then go on to explain that while it may need a lot of TLC that you have the enthusiasm and expertise to save it from being scrapped if it ever got to the stage where he/she was contemplating that.
Edit: Of course V8lan, who probably types faster than I do, I quite right. You might have to be careful not to insult someone who just thinks his vehicle has a lot of character.

I think Pedro's on the money.
Gus was given to me for free by a Grazier who saw my eyes light up every time I looked at a landy (I was 14/15 at the time)

i think a door knock would be better in these circumstances.
if i found a letter on my windscreen i'd probably throw it in the bin before reading it, thinking it was some god botherer or a parking ticket
Good point Taff.
Ambrose' previous owner had recieved HEAPS of notes left for her of exactly this nature. Some got thrown out - many were kept.
The ones she kept she gave to me when I bought it!![]()

I found my Series 1 parked in a suburban street. I just left a note saying "if you're intersted in selling, give me a call on .........."
A couple of days later, he did call.
He had received lots of offers, but mine was just at the right time.
Good luck,
Mark.

Door knock, be polite, friendly, inquisitive and not overbearing, let the conversation flow if they want to talk ,give them your aims( restore etc) if they say no thank them and offer to leave your details in case the need to sell it!.
