    Fire....

Well - We nearly had a major fire on our door step today - A tree fell on a power line 200m from our house. Absolutely amazing to watch it catch fire. Then the embers flying every where in the wind. Scared the living crap out of us......

    What a day.

I really feel sorry for those people in the midst of the fire storms.

I just got a call from my captain asking me to go to Gippsland on a 3 day strike team.....after a big day here I dont think I can go, but still feel the need to do more but with a very sore head I dont think it would be wise

(Took BA & helmet off to do a low roof search, looked down then moved forward and up into a huge beam )

We had a huge gust come thru about 4pm and took out the neighbours fence plus a 5m tree in our back yard which trashed the hills hoist on its fall.

I hate to think what other damage the gust caused around Melb - too hot to look about.
I can't cut the tree up as its a total fire ban.
Now the dogs will get sick chewing on all the nuts from the tree..

Fairly minor looking at what else is happening.

We live at Macs Cove which is at the northern end of Lake Eildon, 21km's from Mansfield. Thankfully our area and the Alpine National Park have been spared any major fires this year (Touch wood)

This is the choking view we woke to this morning, smoke filled air with an orange glow
Visibility is down to approx 100-150 metres

Thanks bud, all ok out this way for now. Had a large fire at Coleraine yesterday, 800ha not that big but was heading for the township so we sent a strike team for asset protection ie house's.......they stopped right at the edge of town, so all good there. A local farmer was caught by the front trying to move his mates sheep into another paddock, now has 50% burns.......

Only issue was I was left to defend Hamitlon in case of any job (pop of 10,000 and need to cover 20km ra of Hamilton), all other BA ops left for Coleraine with our Pumper (very Rare to leave City) and also the tanker went........so left me with our Hazmat unit (not a fire fighting unit) the Nth Hamilton tanker (steeped up to our station) and a crew with no idea about urban fire's (not there fault).....so lts just say I was a little on edge yesterday for 10hrs ......Thank god we didnt get any jobs........

North at Horsham not so lucky, Dimboola Fire Brigade lost there station or there truck, have heard both so who really knows at this point, also lost there golf club buliding which they just built..........

I didnt know but I woke before and found my pager had 10 messages on it , one saying our brigade was called again at 01:15 for asset protection , dont know where, so I had better get of my **** and see whats going on.

    Stay safe
