Maybe Land Rover owners are way more flexible with the truth than other brands :D

I paid 15k for a 98 tdi 130 with 200+ ks, then spent about 2 getting it roadworthy...about four months ago
i know another sold at the same time for the same price sight unseen...
there was one in Bright VIC for 15k about a week ago that looked ok if that's nearby
Right at the moment, the economic situation is so uncertain that nobody really knows what cars (particularly fairly rare ones like Defenders) are worth, least of all Red Book. There are probably only a few sold each week over the whole country, and the price depends very much on whether there are more buyers or sellers in the particular location this week - most buyers only look at (fairly) local ones.
But having said that, a lot of sellers (not only Landrover) have an inflated idea of what their car is worth!

I know were your coming from lokka,I looked for a second hand one but they were too dear then(1998) so I bit the bullet and bought a new one,I've never regretted it. Pat
I do not believe on the Red book, and I think that Defenders are one of the vehicles that keep the value very well.
Defenders 110 197/98 are selling for up to $ 18000 which is twice the value of a Disco Tdi of the some year.
The cost of fuel and the economy of the Defender made it a very attarctive big 4wd vehicle
defender cost 18 odd to buy and you are flat out getting them insured for 11
disco same year cost 10-12 rust free in good nick and i could get agreed value for 17
i just had this out with my insurer, suncorp.
maximum agreed value on an 85 4bd1 county is 5500...
i said to them try buying a rust free one for under 9k, you wont find one.
they said if i get a valuer to cert it for more than 5500 they will do agreed value for that cert value.
so i took market value and once i paint it i am off to a valuer to see what can be done..
redbook is bull**** in the 110 world...
redbook is waaaaay out on what real car prices are, especially when it comes to trade-in values
API insured my Defender 1994 for $ 15.000
