    What an interesting thread

    Here's my 2c worth (already mentioned i think - so technically a x2 post):

Please don't quote photos unless absolutely nessesary (especially a post with heaps of photos in it). We don't all have broadband...

    No you are not witnesses.

You are collaborators or at least accessories before the fact.

The subject raised by the last couple of posters prompts me to ask a question which I believe is also related to the concerns expressed by the original poster.

How many people can honestly say that as a general rule they start at the beginning of a thread and work their way though before adding a post at the end?

I have the feeling sometimes that some people are guilty of just joining in when a thread has become fairly popular. They read the last couple of posts and then post a comment, oblivious to what has gone before.

Sometimes that leaves them looking like a dill.

If we could be fairly sure that people generally took the trouble to read all the posts in a thread, wouldn't that sometimes reduce the need for such lengthy quotes, including photos?

However, I am conscious of the fact that it is possible for someone to selectively quote a previous post to make it appear that someone has said something quite different from what they actually meant. I don't know what the answer is to that.

I am also aware of the fact that I might be misjudging people. It might already be the case that the vast majority of people take the trouble to read all of a thread before contributing.

I was becoming worried that this thread was beginning to be dominated by very short posts which might give a casual reader the impression that we aren't able to come up with ideas of our own and tend to just agree with what has already been said. I thought we needed a long-winded post to balance things.

I think the balance has now been somewhat restored.

So is it a case of a whole lot of nothing that makes it really something?

    That raises another important point.

Indiscriminate use of the "X2" response can lead to problems if the previous post covers more than one point.

In that case does the "X2" mean " I completely agree with everything in the previous post" or "I agree with the key point made in the previous post" or "I agree with the important bit and like everyone else, I am just completely disregarding that idiotic comment at the end"?
