Bugger!- Did the same thing a while back though not in a Defender - I always watch the car in front now.

Sounds like you got the Shock and Anger bit. (Hubby would have got the depression section)
I doubt you've done much damage - sounds like the lancer absorbed most of the energy.

. I was careful not to admit fault, but it is the classic scenario. We were queued in a side street slip lane waiting to enter a main road. There was a break in the traffic and she moved off, so I naturally turned my attention to the approaching traffic waiting for the next break. Unbeknown to me, she inexplicably stopped halfway across the broken give way line, and I promptly drove into the back of her
