I still don't think it'll happen. The TDV6 adds $10-15K to what ever vehicle it's put in. Will people pay that premium for a diesel Territory? I don't think so.

Agree, but if Ford did do a TDV6 Territory for say 50k, it might bring enough pressure on LR for them to drop the V6 D3 altogether and bring down the price of the D3 S TDV6 to something approaching a reasonable price.

Why? just because Land Rover charges a premium that most likely is greater than any actual manufacturing cost - after all in theory the cost of building a diesel is no more than a petrol - maybe the only savings for a petrol relate to economies of scale for numbers made when compared to the numbers of diesels made.

I sad what ever car, look at Peugeot and see what they charge for the TDV6 privilege. Citroen have a $10K difference between the TDV6 and a 2.0L Diesel. Are all manufactures screwing us or is it reasonable to assume it just costs more? Are Ford going to be able to offer the modern TDV6 for $2K more than a straight six used in taxis?

But you can get a Prado Diesel for the same money. The Territory would then need to become a bit more capable I think.

BMW's bottom of the range 5 series is a diesel and a pretty decent car too. The pricing has nothing to do with manufacturing costs or about demand either.

Car manufacturers have psycologist to help set RRP, they consider many factors including snob value and what the market will bear.

I recon this is the way car manufacturers price their vehicles....

Now as for the massive difference between LC petrols & diesels, for both current & previous models, who knows how they worked them out......

The diesel is priced to the max the market will bear,& they sell thousands of them, particularly to the grey nomad market.....

Looking back to the D2,i am sure there was only a couple of thou. difference between a petrol & a diesel, probably because that was all the market would cop at that time!

The next step up is a petrol 6 and is about 11k more. 10kw more power and 120nm less torque, and the cheaper diesel is quicker to 100km/h by 0.7sec.

They COULD have sold this for more than the petrol if they wanted to, not sure why they didn't given Audi's pricing policy.
