It certainly does pay to shop around

Just reading DiscoDan's post on the price of oils, and thought I would share this little gem with you.

Had to put the Disco in for its 80k service. Thought I would do a comparison of prices before I committed to it, as I knew it would be steep.

Started with the stealer. Told me that a normal 80k service hits around $1000, but as i was supplying all fluids & filters, it would be between $750 - $800 mark.

Then tried the recently ex-dealer. They finally got back to me and wanted around the $650 mark, still with me supplying all fluids & filters.

Thought i would try the local Profix. They had done some work for me in the past on another car, as well as working on a few other peoples cars I know of, and all were happy with the work.

They quoted me $380. From my past experiences, I knew they would stick with this price, so booked it in.

When I went to pick it up, they were just finishing the job. The guy at the counter punched it all into his computer, tilted his head to the side & said, "is $110 ok with you?" He even sounded guilty about asking for that.

I was more than happy to pay less than half the quoted price, all of the work has been done in accordance with the service schedule, and they even shined the tires.

So, shopping around certainly does pay off. Even SWMBO didn't believe me until I showed her the receipt.

You silly boy - you tell SWMBO that the cost was as quoted and you keep the rest of the money for yourself. I am sure SWMBO would have no hesitation doing that if she were in the same position - a new pair of shoes would no doubt appear pretty quick.

    I know, I know...

But this is also the woman that rang me at 8:00 am one day, and asked me what I bought on the way to work...

I had to admit, I stopped off at the servo & filled up as the car was nearly empty...

She is a scrooge when it comes to money, BUT now that I have been honest with her, I get to spend the "spare" $170 on the Disco

Thinking I might give her a nice warm bath, a bit of TLC, gently caress her curves, slide my hand over her lovingly... And when I have done that, I will come inside & see what the wife has cooked for dinner
