Here's my custom made rack.
- All aluminium - weight 23kg total.
 - Made of 1 sheet of amplimesh type material with a round tubular frame. This makes it easy to lash ropes over and tie down at any point.
 - No sides - allows for a wide load and better overhead clearance. It also means that any future roof top tent doesn't sit on the rails, but spreads its weight across the base.
 - 8 broad legs, but no common rail along the side. This distributes the weight, but allows flexion so as not to crack gutters. I read somewhere that the weight distributing roof rack rails on a LWB can be detrimental to the gutters on a Land Rover.
 - A small mounting platform at the front for lights & aerials.
 - An annexxe rail on either side for sliding on a lightweight campers fly awning.
