We've been thinking the same thing, planning to go in a couple of months and haven't decided what to do with the dogs. One of the dogs has camped many times before but we are thinking it might restrict us in where we can go, ie. national parks etc. I was going to phone parks and wildlife and find out.

    Hey mate
As an ex-Ranger on cape york, you won't be able to travel into any of the parks on the cape as such. There's nothing stopping you from driving straight up to the tip, but access into Cape Melville, Lakefield, Coen NP, Iron Range and Heathlands is restricted. It's ok to have a dog onboard in some cases where a gazetted road passes through a national park such as at Heathlands, but once you drive off the road you're on parks' estate. If you want to experience the parks on the cape then best leave your pup at a kennel in Cairns or Mareeba.
    Hope this helps :-)
