I think your referring to the Basingstoke built Thornycroft Mighty Antar Mk 1b's,with the Rolls Royce V8 Meteorite Mk 208,268 HP petrol engine, some civvie ones had a diesel version fitted, normally used as a tank transporter,Dinky Toys made a model ln the fifties with or without a Centurian tank in a gift set.
I also found a very rare Mulliner bodied Series 1 80" Station Wagon used at the site.
...Mrs G's nan, apparently drove Antars when she was in the REME in the 50's she had to have wooden blocks on the pedals and cushions on the seat, she gained access by a step ladder specially carried on her vehicles,as she is only 4'10" tall in her army boots.
She left the army with a full tool kit including hydraulic jacks of 5/20 tons
smuggled out in her haversack,'she wa dead strong wa nan back then'said Mrs G,who still has a photo copy of her paybook(cpl 41257 Driver, Bright Harriett).as previously threaded still has her LGV licence.
I asked Nan if this was true,'Thats right love' she, answered between mouth fulls of best Yorkshire tea and Balmcake.
Is this before or after the 2A workshop & the mezzanine floor ?
Was sure I heard you say Steve could drive the Rangie?... oh second thoughts probably not a good idea seeing as it's got a bit of a habit of trying to wander off & explore areas it evidently finds more entertaining ....
