What is "proped"?
If the airbags are in good condition they are usually fine for outback travel.
If they are old and perished you are asking for trouble.
Im getting confused, advice from many sources say replace sls with coil springs if going in to outback.
I had the air bags "proped" to give them a bit more life but I guess theyve only got a bit of life left,
Should I replace the bags or go for a coil system. Hobbeez have a 2" lift kit for $625 which is cheaper than new bags.

Gday GBR, we had ours removed and replaced with heavey duty coils, its been great since. Its just 1 thing to cross of the list of problems.
The only thing i do want to do is fit a set of pollies inside the coils, just to give a little more lift in the bum when fully loaded![]()
Bush Mech filled with tyre gunk to take out small perferations. I know times up for them its now a matter of what I do.
As BigJon says... if they're in good condition they should be fine. I have them on the rear only, have crossed the Simpson 2 times, once towing, the Cannning stock route towing, and about to travel the Simpson again this year. John
Just read what Proped is. Sounds like they;re too far gone to rely on them in the outback, really no way of repairing them if things go wrong. If you tow regularly it's worth putting new bags on but otherwise I would be tempted to replace with springs
GRB, I like air suspension, good ride, been around for years etc.
Re costs for new bags, The Airbagman in Brissy can supply parts Australia wide. Arnotts Industries USA will ship to Australia, with the $AU the way it is you should get two bags for $360AU plus delivery which shouldn’t be that much. Check out the websites.
I think Aust customs applies import duty over for goods over $1000, check before ordering if from overseas. I got four for my RR several years ago from Arnotts, took about two weeks.

The SLS system is like any other car part,, it wears out.
I think ten years is not too bad considering,,
Replace the bags and reco the compresser(Just Do It).
good for another ten,,
try that with coils.
oh,, and visit the D2 forum and see what the owners think.

I agree with Pedro...
Certain parts wear out... Avg Life of an AirSpring is 100,000km when used normally.. Offroading a lot, and heavy loads reduce life (sort of like revving an engine hard vs gentler use)
Replace the Bags, give the compressor a once over (it gets grubby down there) and you'll be good to go...
Fit a SLS Spacer Kit, some lifted front coils, and your done...
Coil conversion + Polyair type bags will cost far more than replacement bags and will not ride / perform as well as AirSprings.
I'm thinking of going the other way!!! And retrofitting SLS.
What he said +
The air spring is the only spring medium that will give the same ride comfort and handling regardless of load. The only people that will advise to remove the system are those that don’t know how it works – and there is usually greater profit for them to sell you a coil conversion…
It is like any part of the car, it requires maintenance – do that and it rarely lets anyone down... Nearly all problems are due to neglect
