If you go to the tyre manufacturer's site, you will find the recommended rim widths for those tyres.

Rim width fitments range from 6.5" to 8" for the 255/85.
You can run them easily on 130 6.5" rims. Running them on the narrower rims also tends to protect the sidewalls a bit better.
Standard 110 rims are only 5.5", Disco I steelies are 7".
I am not worried about the width of the rim, I have already been to BFG's web site and have chosen to run the BFG KM2's. I am after offset! I know that these tyres will run on my disco rims width wise, but I believe that they will not run diameter wise.... So the question that I was asking is, what rim are people running these on with regards to the alloys.... Defender should have better clearance than my disco anyway. What I was trying to do was avoid using heavy steel rims if I could get away with it..but I dont think that I will have much of a chance...:)
IIRC most all 165mm PCD Land Rover rims run 33mm offset, except for the 130HD/Wolf rims which are 20.6mm, so effectively give you a 1" increase in track over the other rims.
Disco I rims with the centres reversed are a popular mod to increase offset/track and give greater lock.
255/85's mounted on 130HD rims on a 130 give a bloody poor turning circle, probaby more akin to berthing an ocean liner.
Doesn't worry me too much as I'm in the bush, and if parking back into a spot or reverse anyway, but geez it's nice when I jump into the Patrol and don't have to do 5 point turns everywhere.
So I guess my next question is where would you find someone who can flip the rim?
I just spoke with my local tures shop who deal exculsivly with BFG ...
BAD NEWS !
BFG are ceasing the size 255x85x16 and what is out there is it at the moment the last batch to hit our shores is in 3 months time at around the $385 a tire
They told Terry that there is next to no demand for them :(
you know why sith? because the big money is with all these tossers driving on big rims and low profile.....real good for the bush
