mud wasps have got me twice now. first time blocked the exhaust of the brushcutter, but it was easy as it was visible. Next time plugged up the small chainsaw muffler but they started from way inside it and were worked their way out building as they went. Only found it by dismantling the muffler. Now have little screens made of gal flyscreen over all the small exhausts. Don

Not that I'm any chainsaw expert - although I have owned a Stihl Wood Boss for 2 months now , one good tip I got from the Stihl dealer was to just start the saw once a week and let it run for 3 or 4 minutes. The diaphram won't gunk up/ rot/dry out and yes, it's better to use the 2 stroke fuel than leave it sitting in the thing for too long.

It really helps reaffirm your masculinity to go down to the shed and have a whole pile of 2 stroke gardening items hopping all over the ground idling away. Of course, this is gold if you have annoying neighbours - hell, you can become the annoying neighbour! Give them all a bit of a rev up to clear the plugs and you're done - beer time.

Thanks to those who contributed. I decided to give it a service and check a few things. Spark was/is fine, nothing in muffler, so decided to mix up 100ml of new fuel....standard unleaded + 2 stroke and it started on the second pull. From now on I will be emptying old fuel out at the end of session. I will also be purchasing a new saw.
