James,
Bear in mind that the joining process may take some time. It is shorter for general entry (not officers) but my first step - applying for a part-time job via the website - was in January. It took almost 4 months before I had my interview and medical. It was then I got accepted into the ADF. Since I am joining as an officer, I have to go through the officer selection board. It was originally scheduled for end of July but was moved forward for this Sunday. If everything goes right I should be at SUR sometime in July, provided the administration doesn't take too long.
I short, the process may take a few months. I met this bloke at the info session last month who signed up last year and still didn't have his OSB scheduled. So don't be surprised if by the time you enlist it will be summer holidays.

I am only enlisting in as a Driver in the Reserves... from what i have heard it shouldn't take that long? or am i mistaken. I guess various courses would take varied times.![]()
expect getting past recruiting to take 3-4 months.
once your past there its usually up to a 2 month wait for a spot on a recruits course.
from there you'll get a posting to a chocco unit.
from there it can take up to 12 months to get onto a drivers course. (and longer if your a numpty)
your time at the unit wont be wasted but there is specific training that has to be done by the unit thats not always covered in basic.
its also a good stepping stone to transfer to full time..
if you give me your age (pm is fine) I'll send you a copy of the fitness standards.

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
I would of thought they would of wanted to train people up as quick as they can all this waiting around just deters me from bothering.![]()
depending on who is in ops.....expect delays in getting on courses, it will be slow going at first, maybe the first year or two
if the recruiters are any good they should have you parading at a unit as a visitor within a couple of weeks
train people quickly, remember they have budget and limited courses to work with and if its anything like brisbane to get students onto a course the unit running the course will ask for instructors and or vehicals which can be a sticking point
Mate the Army was the best thing i ever did! You make awesome mates and the lifestyle is pretty good, even if you do a lot of bush.
Good Luck....

It's been a few years since I sat one, and they've probably changed a bit. It's all about leadership, communication, teamwork, problem solving etc; the same as any job test really.
There's always someone on them to draw the attention away from the rest! Some try too hard, some try not enough, some think it will make them look good if they show up everyone else.
And despite what anyone says (ie "during lunch we're not assessing you"), from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, you're being assessed.
Not sure the Army is for you then Grover.Plenty of "hurry up and wait"
You think it's bad before, wait till you actually get in!!
It can be a lengthy process depending on type of entry, but even General Entry in Reserves can take a while now. (My eldest daughter has just gone through it).
It's great Craic and absolutely worthwhile. Choco or Regs.
Hey Turtle,
As Jamo said, try you're best at everything, don't worry about anyone else but be a 'team player' too, be yourself, get as fit as humanly possible. As stated, they are assessing you on everything you do, at every stage.
Have gone through board 3 times, twice OK, (one Chocos, twice Regs), first one about 20 yrs ago, last one only a few years ago![]()
There are a few forums around that will answer your questions, or give you advice as well.
Good Luck and hang with it
