    Overlanding Brazil

    Hi everyone

Congratulations on a great Forum. This is my first post and I just thought I would just introduce myself. I live in São Paulo and at the moment I am making the final arrangements for an overland trip here in Brazil. Hopefully, we will be on the road by August.

The idea is to spend nine months exploring this huge country reaching places well off the beaten track, taking loads of photos and publishing a book when we get back. We will be using a Puma Defender 130, which we are adapting at the moment, based loosely on the Trojan Back idea by Trek Overland. As soon as it is ready, I will post some photos here on the Forum. When it comes to extra kit, I will have plenty of questions. At the moment I am checking the AULRO archives for stuff.

Only the wife and I will be going, but we are keen to team up with other vehicles along the way, especially for the drive up through the Amazon.

For more details and maps, check out our website (Challenging Your Dreams), where you can also find out about our other overland trip to drive across the world with a Defender 300Tdi in 2002-2005. After this we published a book here in Brazil (ten times harder than the trip!!), but unfortunately it is only available in Portuguese. We are looking to publish it in English when we get back, so any help from publishers/printers out there would be more than welcome.

Of course, if anyone is in Brazil at this time (difficult I know) it would be great to meet up.

A quick question to finish. Has anyone added an extra fuel tank on a Puma yet? If so, any problems? My idea is to place a new 50 litre tank behind the rear right hand side wheel (inside what was the old pick up bed), connect direct to the original tank and use the original hose and breather tubes for a new entrance at the back next to the door. Did I explain that well?

Any other tips and hints always welcome.

    Cheers

    Rob

Looking forward for pictures and annotations. Haven driven the Puma I think it is a good choice.

Wishing you well and good travel,
