That r1 is limited to 300 - gentlemans agreement to limit sportsbikes to 300 by all the big companies.
The 320 bikes were Suzuki Hyabusa and the Kawasaki ZX12R.
I owned one of the last runs of the unrestricted Hyper Bikes the ZX12R, with full muzzy, power commander and a bottle of NOS in the duck tail. This thing used to pull very hard up to as high as you dared to take it.
dung beetles hurt like billy-o and draw blood at 80km/hr...at 300 they would be almost lethal!

....and at 2.22 this happened:
The Merc driver misjudged an overtaking manoeuvre. Despite his above average reaction time, due to his high speed he didn't have the distance to avoid colliding head-on with a station wagon carrying a pregnant woman and her three children. Although that car had a top of the line safety rating and would have protected the family at an 'at the speed limit' collision it was simply disintegrated by the super high energy impact of the speeding Merc. The occupants of the station wagon and the driver of the Merc were killed instantly.
The bike rider, although having above average reaction times, was still doing 200kmph when he ran into the debris caused by the accident and was himself killed.
In the aftermath. The husband and father of the family killed was so traumatised that he took his own life. The members of the police and rescue units that attended the accident suffered ongoing PTSD. The family of the bike rider suffered terrible grief. The family of the driver of the Merc suffered ongoing grief and guilt.
All because two stupidly selfish people decided to take a joy ride thinking that they were 'good enough' to not cause an accident.
IDIOTS like this should stay off the road.
Yeah alright. Enough chat.
