    Just to be picky, that sword is a khopesh rather than a scimitar.

    It's a curved sword used by the Egyptians and Canaanites- maybe Hittites too.
    It was designed to be used as an axe ie primarily cleaving rather than slashing. Some historical examples are sharpened, others not.
    That's all I've got off the top of me 'ed.
