It is scary, and I guess in principle, I agree that patent protection is a valid concern for people with assets, businesses and brands to protect.
But to patent an intangible thing, like a concept, is more an oversight of the patent office in issuing the patent in the first place, followed by heavy handed legal thuggery to extort money out of those who are least able to defend themselves.
The patent for the stick as a dog entertainment device, and the technique for swinging on a swing was an eye opener.
Maybe I should buy the rights to some silly patents, and enforce the heck outta them.

I know someone quite well who owns the trademark 'feral', in class 22 from memory.
He was denied registering 'wet dreams' a couple of years prior to that registration apparently. Still has 'prior use' rights though.
