I was never quite sure if 22/7 was a close approximation or the real deal?

It's close enough for government business.

Very close approximation. The beauty of 22/7 is it's ease in inserting it into formula. pi when taken further and further (integers) is getting closer to "exact", but never quite reaches is... Mathematically speaking...

    22/7 rounded = 3.142857143.
    Pi rounded = 3.141592654.

I like the Philosophy of pi being and 'infinite' number... ties in so well with the symbolism of (endless) circle...

But for the pedants among us, here's the first 1,000 Enjoy.

How is Pi calculated? You can't measure it that accurately.

    Pi calculation

    1. One method is to make a polygon and calculate the total length of the sides vs the 'diameter' and use this as an approximation. The larger the number of sides, the closer to Pi.

    2. Another uses the Leibniz sequence and i'll leave you to google that.

    3. You can get an estimation graphically by measuring a circle but you have very little chance of getting your error below 3 decimal places
