A 3" lift is fairly easy and inexpensive to attain, but would you want to? I have a 2" lift with Billies and Kings springs and am yet to cross axle or beaten anywhere by a Hilux. But we may be talking totally different 4wdriving environments and styles.
The big issue with the NCOP that is pretty much inforce is that your truck may be illegal without an engineering cetificate and some. I know that may not seem like a concern to you but it could lead to a red sticker defect and your insurance company not covering you. You could also face additional charges if in an incident.
I would take JC's advice to get more articulation.
But just beware, a lot has changed with vehicle mods and a lot more is about change shortly and the biggest issue with it is it is and the changes proposed are going to be retrospective. So the argument that it was legal when I fitted it Office will not be a consideration.
The implications of these codes of practice are yet to be fully realised.

    Gday Matt,
Get some custom rate springs - Shane from suspension stuff can sort these out for you, not to heavy duty but long enough to acheive a 2-3in lift and soft enough to allow full tuck to the bump stop still. Then get some longer shocks, you dont need full dislocation if you dont want huge flex, you can retain the spring top and bottom and still get great flex with the right shocks. I would suggest doing the messurements on the maxium closed length shock that will fit the stock mounts, we setup a friends rangie on procomps with stock mounts and she gets the spring dropping a few inch out of the top seat if its not retained and can acheive full tuck. I dont remember the lengths though.

Procomp have a good assortment but dont ride as good as billies, otherwise there are some long travel billsteins out there but are way more expensive then the procomps.

I would say your stiff springs are limiting the up travel a fair bit, i run heavy springs in my county to prevent rubbing, the axles never come near the bump stops with them yours would be the same no doubt but without the extra drop! find somewhere to get it flexed up and stick your head under and check how far off the bump stops the axles are - take some pics if you can

and 255/85s are a great size for a slightly lifted defender, ive seen heaps running that size now and they go great offroad with the stock suspension. Another thing to consider is the hilux's probobly have LSDs in the rear...
