Unhappy To Buy Or Not To Buy?

I just joined this site but have not had an opportunity to own a Land Rover.

I recently viewed and was maybe wishing to purchase a Freelander 2 Petrol version 6cylinder and after many forums and homework through internet on the vehicle I am more confused an ever as to the quality. One article even elaborates on their experience of the vehicle being a death trap due to the electrics failing…. Freelander 2 Potential Death TrapFreelander: is yours a death trap?

Would some of you owners be kind enough to steer me in the right direction who has a Freelander 2 to let me know first hand why I should buy this vehicle as i don't want problems after spending so much money.

    Thanks

    Hmm

I buy a new one, but the old models due not have a good reputation.

My old business partner had a 4 cyl petrol model soft top and was always in workshop plus totally gutless.

New ones look like the buy.

I go a Disco over a freelander anyday.
    Choices I guess.

You could try going to the Freelander forum and reading down the list of posts: Freelander - Australian Land Rover Owners

There is one there that might be relevant: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/freelander...reelander.html It's asking about a diesel version, but the general comments might be interesting to you.

A few comments here http://www.aulro.com/afvb/freelander...r-problem.html on the V6 liner issue.

Personally, I wouldnt go near one. Resale value of the earlier ones is atrocious (many would argue for good reason) and even if the F2 is a better vehicle it will likely suffer the same fate - late Magnas are an example of this.

There are lots of Japanese SUV equivalents to the Freelander and many now with Diesel options which would have to be a safer proposition.

There are none with the same luxury, comfort and ability. For the money you can not find a better vehicle in its class. Who exactly makes an equivalent diesel? The xtrail uses an old gen diesel with poor towing capacity. Sounds like you've never looked at the specs let alone driven one.

I've never read a road test were they didn't say it's one of the best vehicles ever tested. The T/Diesel is better than any engine the japanese make. Pat

IMO they (FL2's) seem excellent. There are several people on here who have them and they all speak highly of them.

    Very good off road too.

    I'd have one.

Robert, they are a cracking little car.

The TD4 is effortless as a cruiser, petrol has lots more poke but obviously come at the cost of fuel consumption.

We did our homework and test drove an X Trail a number of time before buying our Freelander 2 (TD4). The auto diesel X Trail was the most unresponsive piece of rubbish (perhaps the petrol is better?).

At the end of the day there is always the possibility that you could be the extremely unlucky bugger to buy a dodgy vehicle no matter the brand (as the fella on the site you quoted seems to be).
