The best answer I can honestly get as to why to get a Puma

I'm looking at this for a leased vehicle, not an offroad toy. IAH an i30 and keeping the suzi looks like a better option.

Yeh go the i30,just keep spare light globes in the glove box because you can't drive them if one blows.I'm not taking the p*ss,they lock in park if a globe blows. Pat

Just for information:

A new isuzu County Wagon cost about $35,000 in 1986 (according to Redbook).

That in today's money is about $71,000. (according to Cost of Living Australia )

I guess that an equivalent Defender today ie with the County goodies like the salisbury diff, carpet, and a modern Isuzu equivalent motor together with the Puma nice to haves like AC that works, ETC, ABS, would be a goodly amount more than $71,000.

Who here would buy a new one even If LR thought that it would be a good idea?

I can see where Dobbo is coming from (unless of course he is trolling).
I am in the same boat when contemplating replacing the Defender. While it has a bit to go yet it is not great for the passenger so sooner or later a change will happen.
I would love a new 130 twin cab and like the layout etc. Even my whole family would like one. But in reality it probablly just wont happen. The issue for me is not the vehicle, but the lack of service centres and parts availability outside the metro area in WA. As these vehicles get higher tech and require computers etc to do even the most basic diagnostics, LRA have lost the plot. Not saying they need a full dealership in each town, but they need a suitable, qualified mechanic that can do authorised servicing, repairs, warranty work and who stocks basic spares like filters, belts an hoses. I know I can get them by mail, but this can take more than two weeks to country WA (I am waiting on bike parts ordered 10th July and sent on 15th) and is unacceptable. My wife hates the fact that with all 3 LRs we have had I have had to keep a supply of spares in my shed.
As much as I hate Toyota or Nissan it will probablly be one of these as you can just about walk into any garage and obtain basic spares and servicing.

Robert I know him very well.....and quite often our converations are tit for tat.....But I do happen to know he genuinely has thought about getting a PUMA hence I know he has also test driven one.

Tested out 4 now, closest dealer to me would be Parra. Long way from home.

I am not trying to bag out folks cars, but I am far from convinced it is the right car for me.

Just et a Toyota Yaris mate and be done with it.

I have to disagree with you Craig,when I worked at the smelter as a mobile plant fitter I could not buy toyota parts as easy as LR,I waited many,many times for parts to be shipped from over east,I waited two weeks for a service kit for a cruiser auto,when I serviced the disco ZF had one on the shelf.I have never had any trouble buying any part for either the disco,fender or L322 nor have I had any trouble with servicing.I am criticle of toyota as they make very big claims about reliability and ease of servicing with thier dealer network but I have found it all to be complete BS,as I have posted before they now have a field service unit as the vehicles have been failing in remote area's and I was costing them huge sums to be brought back to town.I had 8 tojo's on my books and every one of them had warranty work,my hilux had 6 in the 12 months I had it and we parked two troopy's that were lemons from the word go.I keep parts for my vehicles at home,I would if I drove anything else for one reason,we both live in an area that with a short drive you are in a land of nothing.If you can keep a Td5 on the road the puma will be easy,remember it has a transit engine so service it at the ford dealer.
