Looking for some advice around selling my D2

    Hi All,

First off this isn't a sales pitch I promise. I am looking to get your advice on what to do with my Disco really.....

The situation I am facing is as follows:

I am out of the country at the moment (living back in the UK where I'm from), planning to come back only briefly to Melbourne to sort out some admin and ship some stuff currently in storage in Melbourne back here to damp old England. My Disco is in storage at present, costing me, but safe and sound. I did a big trip in it back in 2008 for 6 months around Aus, and not surprisingly the car needs a bit of "TLC" to get it up to a sell-able level. I know its a bit of a silly situation, but we left the country after our big trip thinking we were coming back to Aus, and inevitably things change, so we our left with a bit of logistics problem in terms of what to do with the trusty old Disco!

The thing is I dont want to spend a load of money on it getting it fixed, as I cant do everything on it myself, then to try to sell it at a loss anyway - plus the fact that I might not have time to do both when we visit, and I dont want to lumber a mate with it.

So what I am wondering is whats the best thing I could do without a) setting fire to it or b) just leaving it at the airport!

Any ideas? If I listed what was wrong with it on an advert do you think anyone would be interested? Or would I be better just enquiring at some Melbourne based 2nd hand Land Rover dealers or even a wreckers? Its got lots of touring extras that are probably worth a bit if you sold them separately and its still a good engine and overall good 4wd, just some post-trip stuff that needs sorting if you know what I mean?

    Many thanks,
    Chaz.

If I was you I'd put it for sale in here.

I guess the only difficult part will be people getting access to it to view it etc..

Maybe you could get someone to sell it on consignment for you?

I realise you are trying to stick by the forum rules... but maybe give people a bit more detail of the vehicle and you may get an offer - and avoid the problem completely!

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply. I will pop an advert on here I think. But you are right, I cant really sort any viewings until we are back (and I havent booked flights or even got a firm date for that yet!).

What do you mean by sell it on consignment?

    Cheers,
    Chaz.

Sometimes companies will sell something for you.. and they take a percentage.. like a commission.

I haven't really thought through the process for you... but if getting potential buyers to view the vehicle was the show stopper... you may find someone - even one of the Land Rover specialists - that would be willing to sell it for you that way.

You would get a little less money - but also have a lot less hassle.. Just a thought...
