Does anyone remember the thread about new landrovers being driven on a trip which included going to Birdsville last year.
Was there any reports written about the trip and how the vehicles went?
There was a photo on here with all the cars parked in front of the birdsville pub but i have lost the copy i had.
Thanks
I have a copy of "campertrailer Australia" Feb/March 09 in front of me that has a trip with Landrover Australia to celibrate its 60th Birthday that went coast to coast covering Birsville, simpson desert and broome !
This edition only has the Kimberley / Gibb River Rd in it,And I don't have the earlier copies !
It may well have been put in a few different mags !
most of this article talks about the Kimberley countryside but give LR a good wrap too !
thanks
that was a great trip report to read and that hear you didn't have many problems
I plan to go to finke next year for the desert races but will just go via the plenty hwy and them continue around the simpson desert to camerons corner
maybe another time i will have time for a desert trip or even to the Tanami
it seems that the G4 landys and the rangie and freelander completed their trip ok as well
here is a photo of me at the birdsville pub, it just happened that i was there by myself as compared to the photo in your report with all the landys lined up
Hi Anthony
I was lucky enough to be on the third (Kimberley) leg and can report that all vehicles performed really well during the week i was there.
The Freelander 2 was pretty popular among some fellow journos on the first leg across the Simpson and did a great job in the sand, according to what i heard.
My favourite, though, was the Vogue. Ah, the luxury!
Cheers,
Juz
were you a journo on the trip?
Lucky you
Do you have any info on the cars as to what tyres were used or other mods?
I would like to buy a second hand new model range rover, their price has depreciated a lot, but I wonder if I could afford to keep one,( insurance , repairs and so on) It seems that they can handle the rough roads without much trouble
Yep, I was. Makes up for the months spent in the office!
From memory all the vehicles had Wrangler MT/R rubber on them, except for the Defender, which had its standard tyres fitted.
There were no other mods to the vehicles. The two G4 Discos on the trip were kitted out as per the event specs as they were being used for the local Oz G4 selection trials.
Funnily enough, I was the only one who copped a puncture - in the RR Sport - but luckily there was a Defender 130 full of Land Rover tech guys to sort it!
Cheers,
Juz
PS - i don't know that much about the 3.0TD Rangies (if that's the model you're talking about) except, like you, i would love to own one!
