I prefer plastic.
The good ones of course. Don't like the idea of metal on metal when carrying them in a rack or holder. I have had 2 of mine for nearly 20 years with proper care they will last longer than steel.

I have a couple of good quality plastic jerry cans, just wondering what everybody thinks about which is better for reliability/wear etc/

For water or fuel ?
For water the plastic food grade ones. ( the heavy duty dark green ones with the two smaller spouts, and "Water" embossed on the outside -can't remember the brand but are made in Australia - Bunnings have them. )
For fuel I like the new plastic ones with the ratchet locking lid and the funnel that goes down inside the spout for storage.
I've only ever had plastic ones. But I'll be kitting out my SIII with metal ones just to look hard.![]()
I've had steel ones for years,, never had any problems with them,, and they've been used for petrol,,,
Water, as suggested,, I use good quality plastic,,
The proper ex army steel ones IMO
Agreed - Military ones made by Rheem. Solid as...

I used Rheem made military ones for awhile, but eventually they corrode and you get flakes in your fuel that end up blocking filters. Now I only use plastic, though with a 150 litre fuel capacity it's not often I need it.
In a diesel I wouldn't risk using an old metal can anymore.
