    Roof Rack

Hi spent the day looking at all the good stuff on here, Got a really good dose of the flue or similar but it was very informative.

    Wondering??

How strong are the stock bars on the roof??
Thinking it would not be all that hard to make a light weight rack/basket to sit on top of them to put a few things on, like bedding pillows, and the self inflating mattress etc.

Or would I be better off just building a rack that sits on the gutters?

Would a rack at the front give me lots of wind noise as opposed to one at the back? thinking I only need one half the size of the roof not a full one. Just to put the light stuff on.

    Thanks Andrew

I would go the whole hog and biuld one with legs that sit on the gutters... that way your not limited IF you do want to carry more stuff.

As for noise, mine makes heaps so im planning on bolting on a homemade deflector which hopefully will reduce this. Mine is bolted at the back of the Disco so its easy to access stuff when the rear door is open.

    Hey Andrew,
Disco 2 roof bars rated at 60KG.
Add in your cross bars and basket, it dosn't leave rom for much weight.
But if your only loading small light gear should be OK.

Youv'e seen mine, the only noise is when strong winds are head on.
    Get well soon.
    Cheers, Kyle.

Thanks Stooge and Kyle Sort of came to the same conclusions, thought about the deflector too, had a Toyota with a rack, the noise drove me nuts and I cut it in half placed it to the rear with a deflector, no noise and it still did the job.

Just trying for an easy way out! and find a use for the bars already there, what are they for anyway? Good to hang onto while you clean the roof??

    Andrew

Trying to get well but this flue just keeps hanging around!

Might be time for a few scotch & cokes.

    Will give it more thought.

Saw one having a power nap, (laying on its side in a creek) thought they might be there to help lift back upright?
