Id have thought that putting the auto from the sludgebox transit vans shouldnt have been to hard.

Didn't think they came in auto any more - I believe that's why Aussie Post moved over to Mercedes vans.

in a nutshell they took a zf4hp and put it in. then hooked the electronic shift controller to the puma donks ecu.

now my transit van history is only enough to realise that yes they exist, yes they have been on top gear and yes they were available in both auto and manual BUT my best guess is as follows

since the puma donk is just an evolution of the transit engine (like the td5 evolved from the tdi which evolved from the series diesel) some things remained similar enough (the flywheel housing adaptor plate namely) to make grabbing a flex plate, bolting on a TC then bolting the auto on feasable.

getting the ECU/ECM's to talk would have just been a case of a little translation and protocol fiddling.

as for the Tcase, Im guessing they would have stayed with the setup thats in the puma.

I always thought compushift was a common nickname for sludge boxes with electronic brains that had the ability to be externally controlled (as in other than with just the selector)
