Great place and safe for kids other than near the wrecks and resort.
Has a huge rip in the water and is deep

I believe it has changed a lot since we were there with erosion, some closures and the Combie trader gone

If you want a spot quiet and protected go about 500 mtrs north (Cant remember exactly Have it on a GPS though) of the blue lagoon. There is a small inland fresh water lake/ more like large pond near by. A few blast through it will help wash some of the salt off after a beach run. The sand was hard going when we were there but you will make it. Just don't stand on it to much when you feel it digging in is the trick.
Is walking distance from the water but behind a well vegetated hill.
Bit of a hike to the showers etc though but you can manage that.

PM me if you want any details.

I was there with the family at Easter. We were meant to be camped on the Ocean side near the lake, but the section north of middle road was closed.

We ended on the inland side between yellow patch and north point. We found an isolated camping spot just the right size for our family and friends.

    G'day mate,

If you don't need any amenities, then I would be avoiding the "camp grounds", and staying in one of the "camp zones", where you should be at least 50 meters from your neighbouring campers. We've camped in the North East and North West camping zones shown on the map below, and there's great camp sites in both areas. Personally I like the surf so we usually picked the eastern side, but last time we tried the calm, sheltered waters of the west and were surprised how much we enjoyed it - dolphins go past just a few meters from the shore, and if you're luck there may still be some whales around (last week of Nov might be too late though). I've never stayed in the camp grounds with facilities, but I've driven through Blue Lagoon and Comboyuro grounds and they both looked nice enough.

If you like snorkling, then you should definitely spend some time at the tangalooma wrecks.

The light house up the northern tip is worth a trip for some great views.

There's an area called "The Desert" where you can slide down a fairly big sand dune (great fun for kids, but once was enough for me - there's only so much pleasure to be had from sand entering every orifice in your body .... ).

And of course, don't forget the beer and the fishing rods!
