Yes, I think your south would be a lot more like my north! The other thing I have to figure out is what season I should pick to finally visit Australia. When I was there last I had to scrape ice off the windshield on the morning of July 1st. We're well into summer here, so that was a really humorous morning for me. So I could escape the rainy drudgery of winter at home and do my trip down there in January. Sort of a double bonus there....

There are plenty of boats here, actually. I think Washington state boasts the highest per-capita boat ownership rates in the U.S. We've also got a Navy port just a few miles away as well. They've got a few boats too, I hear.

Okay, I've got to ask.... What's a "squizz?"

Here's the info I have on it: The Isuzu NPR's use a 4BD1T engine starting in 1985 and ended in 1991. The 4BD2TC started in 1992 and ended in 1998. The 4BD1T has 128hp and the 4BD2TC used an intercooler and has 135hp. With the exception of a few minor changes they will be considered the same base engine. It is buyers' choice. Engine ID can be found on the valve cover plate and on the lower side of the block below the turbo.
Sorry about my typo. 4BD1(T). Plenty of info on them in the Isuzu section below.

3.9L Direct injection diesel. The 4BD2 is the same bottom end but indirect injection. Virtually unstoppable. Can handle a turbo with no issues. should do well over 500k miles between rebuilds. There is someone running 60+ psi boost on one.

    BINFORD,
mate, check this site out http://www.aussieslang.com/ I think its the one I was told was helpful!!

To take a "squiz" is to take a look,

just out of interest, same meaning also covered by
" taking/having a butchers hook", (or, eg" "have a butchers at this")
"taking/having a Captain cook" (our columbus!),
    "having a decko",
    "have a gander",
    'to sus something out"

    cheers!
    Digger

(PS- SOUTH AUSTRALIA area of FLINDERS RANGES is fantastic, especially around the arkaroola area etc, also nearby is desert areas, strezlecki track, birdsville track and we have a reasonably mild climate!....SA Its all good!!!...)

    - banana bender
noun:- a resident of Queensland, perhaps a little derogatory
    I love it!

That Aussie slang site doesn't have some of the best ones I heard from some of the guys out at the chook farms I visited though! I'd best not repeat them here though....

Aussie English is so rich with expressions. In the southern states in America, especially in Texas, they are similarly expressive. We northerners are pretty much a bunch of boiled potatoes when it comes to clever idiomatic expressions....

I am impressed!- but although its accurate I would think its a bit over the top, I wouldnt say that all residents of Queensland are useless or "derogatory".... .... a reasonable number are alright!

    Anyway, cheers!

Took me a minute, but I'm with ya finally, Digger!

That link to the Aussie slang site is not very helpful. It doesn't seem to know much more Aussie slang that I already do, actually! I'm having a tough time of it here! For instance, "budgie" isn't coming up anywhere. And the closest another site had was a men's bathing suit as "budgie smugglers" which causes me to wonder how far I really want to go with this translation! Another site suggested it means "parrot." I'm back in safe territory there, I think!

But stuff like "as much use as a sore butt to a fence rider" would be something I would expect to hear from some of my Texan friends! You Aussies and Texans are pretty close in many respects.

    And quite different in others!

At least in this refined world of AULRO you wouldnt get reffered to as a Seppo.
    Seppo=Septic Tank=Yank.
Yes a derogatory term for our North American friends.
