I suggest you all send a short message to her showing your opposition to this crap.

Done, every member should be sending this hypocrit a message, flood her website with opposition otherwise the minorities will have their say.

Where do you get of prurporting this stupid idea of banning 4x4s? It is just stupid, with your ideas everything would be banned on the same principles. So lets ban trucks, buses, vans, motorbikes, scooters, limos, aeroplanes etc etc. If people are so scared of 4x4's then maybe they should not be driving at all as this just indicates how inept they are.20000 people support the ban, well sorry but that is actually a minority in a country of 22 million. As an emergency services worker I have attended enough MVA's to know most are caused by alcohol, fatigue and inexperience and few are caused by 4x4s. You should be foccussing on alcohol, fatigue, experience and car safety. Most of these small cars are far more dangerous. We as 4x4 owners also have the right to live our lives how we wish and pursue our leisure activities as we wish. Lets get the facts out their not stupid agendas that only publish some of the information that supports your cause not the entire facts.
This just confirms my opinion on how out of touch politicians are and love pandering to the minorities who live in their little fantasy worlds. Get a life and deal with our countries real problems, not this selfish agenda rubbish that has no real basis to even be considered. I do hope you get thousands of emails about this.

FFS people SHE IS NOT IN FAVOUR OF THE PETITION

Emails with diatribe like that give ammo to the 4WD haters, and make us look like tools.
I think the petition is pathetic, and it gives me the irrits, but it's the media and the "petitioner" people should be blasting.

Did you read any of this thread?
She is NOT in favour of the petition, or any part of it.
She is the opposition transport minister and as such was obliged to table the petition.

    From the Sunshine Coast Daily:
Ms Simpson, the opposition's transport spokeswoman, said she did not support the ban but the principal petitioner who lives at Currumbin on the Gold Coast had right to see the document tabled.

"I do not support bans upon four-wheel-drives nor do I endorse the proposal of my constituent," Ms Simpson said.

“When I received it, I told the petitioner I did not agree with his views but I believed he had a right to have it tabled.

“Once misreported, these things morph into myths.

"This was not my petition, nor did I write or endorse it.

"I tabled it through the Clerk of Parliament as MPs routinely do for petitions, regardless of whether they concur with the sentiments.

“It is definitely not LNP policy to ban four wheel drives in school zones or shopping centres or to hike their registration fees."

However, Ms Simpson said she did agree with a petition tabled earlier this year protesting against the Bligh government's vehicle registration hike.

    "Dear Member,
Could you please pay attention to the simple fact that your right to express a view is a result of a certain number of Australian citizens CHOOSING you as their ELECTED member. You are there to represent the views of the MAJORITY of your constituents NOT just your own personal views.
As a memeber of the responsible 4wd owning community, I object to you using your position to promote a view which is way out of line with such a large proportion of the community who choose drive 4wd vehicles.
Your position is at best ill informed, at worst, a blatant misuse of your elected and priveledged position."

There's my little protest in her inbox

    Not always true.
We are with west net for our phone and internet. Our bills are significantly cheaper and they only have call centers in Australia.
Last time telstra tried to win us back I told them not till they can match e price and service level. Never heard from them since

Exactly why she should make it very, very clear she does not concur.

"This was not my petition, nor did I write or endorse it.

That is all welll and good but unless she makes it quite clear in the media and on her web site then it will be inferered that this is the consensus of the population. Unless she hears from the other side too, it could be infered that this is the consensus.
I stand by my remarks 100%, our politicians should be foccussing on sorting the major issues in this country rather than trivial issues like what cars people should be allowed to own. And on the flip sign I have not seen much evidence that she supports 4x4 ownership either.

I have had a reply from Fiona Simpson and it follows and I still believe we need to let our MP's know our opposition especially those in Fiona's electorate.
    Dear Mr Elphick
Thank you for contacting me directly. At least then I have a chance to reply. Unfortunately this story has been wrongly reported and is fast morphing into a myth.
I do not support banning four wheel drives and never have.
I refer you to the following links on my website.

    My reply to Fiona
    Fiona,
Thankyou for taking the time to reply. I am pretty much straight forward and believe in confronting an issue straight up which is why I contacted you directly. Though I am not in your electorate, I do believe it is very important to show the other side of the issue as a 4x4 owner and someone who is probablly infact in the majority (for example every 2nd home where we live has a 4x4, probablly moreso). I do hope you are able to convey your personal thoughts successfully otherwise it does give a undue misrepresentation.
    Thanks
    Craig

Exactly.... If you can distract the masses from the real issues and keep them focused on some problems they can "solve" then they get voted for.
