"Bath hurst where the bloody hell are you"

It seems that Top Gear UK believe that the the annual shootout between Holden and Ford is held at some place called "Barth- hurst".
Several times they mispronounced the name of the Commodore sold in the UK under the Vauxhall badge.
Imagine the outcry from some of the critics here if the Australian version had been guilty of such careless research, contempt for an iconic motorsport event or just general lack of professionalism.![]()

hahahahahahah how funny I said to Ian how long before someone on the forum goes on about the way it is pronounced....
Its called an accent my dear friend if you hear me talk I to prenounce things like it has an "r" in it.....as do MANY MANY other british people that generally come from the south of the land
however I call it bathurst not barthurst......
but I call a bath a barth and a tomato a tomarto![]()
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
No, it's a mispronunciation.
It is a town (or city) name, not a word that has something to do with "baths".
All the Australians I know take a "barth", not a "bath" as Americans might do.
If we Australians can accept that the name "Cholmondley" should be pronounced "Chumley" and "Mainwaring" is pronounced "Mannering", then think it is not unreasonable to expect that Clarkson and Hammond will pronounce "Bathurst" the same way Australians do.![]()

And your braking out in an angry sweat because someone didn't pronounce something right.....perhaps they were taking the ****!! after all that suggested anyone owning a holden had no class
why dont you just put your feet up, crack open a vino and put on some Aussie top gear, relax and cheer your self up
Oh and I frequently mispronounce places in Australia........and have been laughed at many times.perhaps you should just have a laugh at it as well
you should have a word with.....today FM and the way they pronounce Mon ark Orather than Monaco

I think the problem is that I had already polished off a couple of glasses of vino before I started typing, so I didn't think to look for the emoticon that shows that I don't think this really matters and that it is just a bit of a joke. I just wanted to have a bit of a dig at the people here who claim that the UK version of TG is brilliant and professional and the Aussie version is amateurish.
My warped sense of humour makes me deliberately pronounce Worcester as War-cester, Leicester as Lie-cester and Gloucester as Glue-cester, so it did occur to me that they might have been deliberately applying an English pronunciation to an Australian name.
I don't really care how TG UK pronounce things. I just couldn't resist having a go at the TG Aus critics.
I wasn't upset about it before the glass of wine and I certainly am not worried about it now.![]()
