    Driving with a bun in the oven

    Hi All,

    In the process of planning Christmas camping trip, but this year we have an added extra, I'll be 6 months pregnant with Bandy (our baby Landy fanatic!)

    We are just heading to our fave sand Island off Brisbane, and while no extreme driving is planned, there is always a few bumps across the tracks.

    Most people are saying don't go, but I can't seem to find any recommendations as to when 4WD becomes dangerous to Mum and Bub.
    (I will speak to the Dr, but that won't be for another few weeks!)

    Grateful for any advice.

    we have a baby due in april. we checked with the doctor and he said that there is not problems. but once the baby is born we will have to wait until they are at lest 6 months.

    I would suspect you'll be just fine. If you have a defender you should start thinking about your child restraint now though.

    All I know is that mums and babies are tougher than I thought - just imagine what it was like 10,000 years ago. You would have been out hunting 20 ft high wombats for dinnner.

    Go and enjoy yourself - it is the best thing you can do.

    Most of all listen to your Doc. - not us!

    Whether it is safe or not I know my wife felt very uncomfortable when 4wding and pregnant. Although she has never been a huge fan of 4wding anyway.

    In fact after about 6 months I think she rarely got into my Discovery for any driving at all.

    keep it at a risk level your happy with and keep it simple, I took connie and alex camping while he still had 3 to go in the oven. Everyone had a ball. Alex was camping again 6 months after the day. Planning the baby seat restraint early is a good idea it took us 2 weeks to get the restraint fitted to the vehicle.

    My wife is 30 weeks with twins and her daily drive is a Defender, you'd have to prise the keys from her cold dead hands she loves the Defender that much. Restraint bar took 2 days from order and 45 mins to fit. Baby seats just fit in when in the horizontal position though, i think the Disco will be better for that phase.

    When I was around 7 or 8 months pregnant my husband thought it would be nice to go to O'Reillys via Duck Creek Rd. I made it up there fine and even did the treetop walk and on the way back down we stopped for a picnic. It was a great day out but by the end of it I had no ankles. So I would say you would be fine, just make sure you take it easy when you get there: That in mind I am no doctor, so maybe gets his ok first!!

    i would not recomend it , the weather 35c and 90% humidity ? and let face it in a defender off roading can be as little as crossing the white lines in the middle of the road take care of the bubs inside of you, its only for a few short months and after he/she is born you can both spend evey spare moment growing together
