The only dedicated parts are the engines - chev and ford - and ford or commodore outer body panels to make each look like the original product. These are just the out panels bolted/welded/glued to the home made chassis/roll cage.

And here was me thinking that they actually started with a ford or holden body shell and reinforced it - roll cage etc. The commentator could not tell which car was which model without the outer panels on.

What a crock - so much for branding - they are all the same basic car just with different engines.

It must all come down to the aerodynamics of the Holden and Ford badges

And after 600 ks they are only a couple of seconds apart they may as well use generic engines as well but then 888 builds half the holden engines already the AUSCAR series died pretty qickly here as no body went to watch boring roundy rounds

It has been this way for a long time and i don't see an issue with it. I agree that there is no consistancey by the governing body but this also is nothing new. I don't think you can blame the drivers for this though.
Wincup did get a little carried away but if you look at the rules on passing he(in my opinion) was to the A pillar. They are looking at this after the race so he could still lose his points and the lead in the championship. The restart was an absolute joke and lowndes got penalised and rightfully so but other drivers should of kept there spot as thats how racing is. I would not like to see this again. I have been a passionate supporter of the category from the start of the 90's and have seen nothing close to what happened on the restart.(by the way i am a byassed ford supporter)

The only car racing that is worthwhile watching is the Aussie Racing Cars.

What other class offers the common sight of cars going four abreast around a corner and any one of them has the chance to emerge in front?

They are mechanically identical (just like the V8s) with caricatures of the body shape of popular real cars.

And now they have a Toyota body on some.

All motorsport is crap.As said the cars are the same, they can't overtake so they just go round and round until someone makes a mistake or their tyres go off.F1 will be good next year,90% of overtaking is in the pitstops but next year refuelings gone so whoevers on pole will win. Pat

I think you will probably see one in a Defender shell before you see one looking like a Datsun 1600.
