Yes racing would improve the breed, and the cost (profit sapping). Wheel bearings are a major issue for starters. I would love to see production racing, but V8s are no longer a sport, it's big business now.

IIRC, one of the problems with that is that it puts quite lively cars in the hands of members of the general public who turn them into a lethal weapon instead of a means of transport.

Remember the days of the XU-1 and the GTHO. To qualify as a production car, a minimum number need to be built and sold. Some of the hoons who buy them have no idea how to handle them on public roads.

Wasn't it that problem that killed off production car based racing a few decades ago?

How do you overcome that problem?

If that is the case then he was driving too fast for the conditions. In this example the conditions are the ability of the brakes to stop or slow the vehicle consistantly.
A good driver will adapt to what they are driving, rather than drive flatout and complain about the lack of brakes!

The could race say an upgraded production version quite easily. The V8 utes for example are pretty close to production spec and are very entertaining to watch.

    just on a different tack---

while its no big surprise all V8's start off with the same frame and major componants--

why is it only 3 or 4 NEW ones get built every year?

for a sport that is sponsored in the millions, this is strange.

the one TRUE advantage HRT and 888(not FPV?) have over the field
    new frames every year.
