We used to have 303 enfields, and two bren guns in the Armoury and used to take em live firing until about 1991 when a bloke from a different company was on the point and the slide on the back of the bolt and pin detached itself into his face and hand. the REME recalled them all turned out that although they were beautifully put together weapons the rifiling had corrosion happening and that stopped the round from leaving the barrel and caused gas to escape rearwards.
Shame really as it was great to have a bash with the 303 and the bren, we also had some stirlings and some 7.62 slr's kicking around, they had them away too buggers.
then came along the SA80 5.56 plastic spastic as it was affectionally known was a bad bad thing ...but apparently they work ok now!!
Oh yeah nearly forgot they had some enfields re-rifled to take 2.2 rimfires for indoor range i liked them.
