you might be living in a dodgie area.
I went O/S for a while and left one car at mum and dads and another with a friend in the country. The one in the country was about half the premium of what it was at my place with the same insurer. The one at mum and dad's went up by about 50% while at a suburb only 10km away.
Crime and accident statistics by postcode make all the difference.
Maybe they charge by the Kilo,,,,![]()

DGA specialise in import 4WDs..
They are also the only ones who would cover our Delica...
We have agreed price on the Landy and the Delica, but not for full replacement value of the accessories, as in the event of accident, I'm more likely to purchase the wreck back (I have that agreement too).
And accessory cost on insurance often exceeds buying new after a few years.
I'm very happy with DGA, was once with TCIS but never again..
Try Australian 4wd Insurance. My Rangie is covered for anywhere in Aus, any modification and accessory as long as I tell them and it is roadworthy.
Fair price as well.

Go with Shannons. Very mod tolerant, good price and good to claim from.
I now insure everything with them.
I called up to add my 914 to the policy as it is in few enough pieces to take and the bloke spent 5 minutes telling me how much he liked them. And then told me it would add a dollar and change to my monthly premium.
Cheers, Steve
Try Suncorp(was SGIO),find them very good, have always used them for the Disco,& our house etc.
Son had an immaculate low mileage dunny dore that was written off & he actually got a lot more money back than what he had payed for it & was allowed to remove accessories from the wreck that were not included in the policy.
Dont try them with commercial fleet vehicles, such as vans, they are way off the mark,or a V8 if your under 25 ,they just dont want to know....
Check the PDS make sure they do not say gazetted roads.
I am with GIO. Paid out when I rolled the D2 on a farm track, no problems.
I am with Suncorp and they repaired my rig when I rolled it (I convinced them by diligent begging & pleading not to write it off! ) only thing is you may have issues with the agreed value issue given high cost of accessories. I know they wouldn;t "agree" on a value higher than red book for me.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
